Gel Text Tutorial
This is actually a pretty easy way to achieve a gel looking text effect.  If I were you I would follow my dimensions and colors for this tutorial in order to get a grasp on what effect the different effects we apply have on our text object.  Once you get an idea what is going on you can change things fairly easy to suit your taste. 1)   Open a new project 300 x 200.

2)   Select the rectangle tool and draw a rectangle 300 x 300 and color it R - 128 / G - 128 / B - 128.

3)   Go to the layers palette and name your new object Background.

4)   Select your text tool (I'm using Comic Sans MS), type in Gel and set the Font Size to 200.

5)   With the text still selected go to "Object / Convert to Path" and then go to "Object / Path Operations / Unite".

6)   Do a "Control C" to make a copy of your text object.  Don't do a Paste just yet.

7)  Go to the layers palette and name your new text object Text Base Color.

9)   Set the Stroke Width of your text object to 8 and use the same color that you used for the fill.

10)  Now do a "Control V" to paste a new instance of your text object.

11)  Center it over your Base Text and color it R - 0 / G - 255 / B - 255.

12)  Name this new object Text Color.

Foreground Color = R - 0 / G - 0 / B - 255
Background Color = R - 0 / G - 255 / B - 255

17)  Do a "Control V" 2 times to paste 2 more instances of your text object.

18)  Select both of the new text objects and go to Arrange / Align / Centers.

19)  Select the top text object and using the Arrow Keys on your keyboard Nudge the text down 5 pixels and to the right 5 pixels.

20)  Select both text objects and go to Object / Path Operations / Back Minus Front.

21)  Move this new object about 3 pixels from the top and 3 pixels from the left of our text and color it R - 255 / G - 255 / B - 255.

23)  Select the Shine Object and apply Effects / Effects / Gaussian Blur and set the radius to 0.5.

24)  For a finishing touch Select the Text Base Color object and  apply Effects / Effects / Drop Shadow.  I used Softness = 2 / Offset = 2.
